Cristiano Godano, conosciuto in tutta Italia come frontman dei Marlene Kuntz, band che ha segnato la storia della musica in oltre 30 anni di attività, è un artista poliedrico, cantante, chitarrista, autore, attore e scrittore.
Classe ‘66, è nato a Fossano in provincia di Cuneo.
I Marlene Kuntz si formano nel 1989 e Cristiano ne diventa il cantante e l’autore di tutti i testi (oltre 130 canzoni). La peculiarità della sua scrittura, caratterizzata da una ricerca di significato e musicalità non banali, lo rende presto identificabile come uno dei pochi musicisti in grado di scrivere inni generazionali e programmatici fondendo il rock e le influenze d’Oltreoceano con la melodia.
Di pari passo con la crescita della fanbase dei Marlene Kuntz, la personalità di Cristiano Godano raggiunge una solidità sempre maggiore.
Viene chiamato a gestire workshop, incontri, laboratori di scrittura e lezioni in tutta Italia. Nel 2012 inizia la docenza presso il Master in Comunicazione Musicale dell'Università Cattolica di Milano. Sempre nel 2019 riceve il Premio Ciampi al MEI.
Esordisce come scrittore nel 2008 con “I VIVI”, un'opera di narrativa composta di 6 racconti. Edito dalla Rizzoli per la collana 24/7 entra in ristampa dopo solo 1 settimana di vendite. Da questo libro viene tratto il reading “Terrore” portato in giro per l'Italia accompagnato dalle musiche improvvisate di Riccardo Tesio. Nel 2019 pubblica “Nuotando nell’aria” (La Nave di Teseo): ripercorrendo canzone per canzone i primi 3 dischi della band – Catartica, Il Vile e Ho ucciso paranoia – e illustrandone i retroscena del processo creativo, scrive un'involontaria e generosa autobiografia delle origini, densa di aneddoti, riflessioni e materiale inedito, un vero e proprio atto d'amore verso il pubblico, la storia ed il futuro della sua band, ma soprattutto verso le parole e la musica, muse ispiratrici di ogni sua creazione.
Il 26 giugno 2020 esce il suo primo album da solista dal titolo “Mi ero perso il cuore”. Osannato da pubblico e critica, il disco ha una forte impronta acustica, ed è estremamente intimo con testi diretti nella loro urgenza espressiva. Nel 2021 entra nella cinquina del Premio Tenco, come “migliore opera prima”: si piazzerà al secondo posto con 39 voti.
Dal 2023 porta in tour con Alessandro Asso Stefana lo spettacolo “Journey through the past”, dedicato a Neil Young, e dal 2024 con il filosofo della scienza Telmo Pievani “Canto d’acqua”.
A giugno 2024 è uscito il suo ultimo libro “Il suono della rabbia” (Il Saggiatore), che raccoglie alcuni dei testi più significativi della rubrica “Elzevirus” che Godano tiene per RollingStone.

Cristiano Godano, known throughout Italy as the frontman of Marlene Kuntz, a band that has marked the history of music for over 30 years, is a multifaceted artist, singer, guitarist, author, actor and writer.
Class of ‘66, he was born in Fossano in the province of Cuneo. Marlene Kuntz was formed in 1989 and Cristiano became the singer and author of all the lyrics (over 130 songs). The peculiarity of his writing, characterised by a search for meaning and non-trivial musicality, soon made him identifiable as one of the few musicians capable of writing generational and programmatic anthems, fusing rock and overseas influences with melody. As the Marlene Kuntz fanbase grows, Cristiano Godano's personality becomes increasingly solid. He is called upon to run workshops, meetings, writing laboratories and lectures all over Italy. In 2012, he starts teaching at the Master in Music Communication at the Catholic University of Milan. Also in 2019, he receives the Ciampi Prize at the MEI.
He made his debut as a writer in 2008 with ‘I VIVI’, a work of fiction consisting of 6 short stories. Published by Rizzoli for the 24/7 series, it went into reprint after only 1 week of sales. From this book comes the reading ‘Terrore’ taken around Italy accompanied by Riccardo Tesio's improvised music. In 2019 he publishes ‘Nuotando nell'aria’ (La Nave di Teseo): retracing song by song the band's first three records - Catartica, Il Vile and Ho ucciso paranoia - and illustrating the backstage of the creative process, he writes an unintentional and generous autobiography of the origins, full of anecdotes, reflections and unpublished material, a true act of love towards the public, the history and the future of his band, but above all towards words and music, the inspiring muses of all his creations.

Hailed by public and critics alike, the album has a strong acoustic feel, and is extremely intimate with lyrics that are direct in their expressive urgency. In 2021 he enters the Premio Tenco's five-man shortlist, as ‘best first work’: he takes second place with 39 votes.
From 2023 he will tour with Alessandro Asso Stefana the show ‘Journey through the past’, dedicated to Neil Young, and from 2024 with the philosopher of science Telmo Pievani ‘Canto d'acqua’.
June 2024 saw the release of his latest book ‘Il suono della rabbia’ (Il Saggiatore), which collects some of the most significant texts from the ‘Elzevirus’ column that Godano keeps for RollingStone.
